Democrazia 2.0

Meetings, debates and in-depth discussions: this is "Democracy 2.0". It will be an exchange of ideas between 400 Italian students and 100 foreign students from 27 National Youth Forums, and the most important stakeholders of business, unions, NGO and governmental organisations.

The City of Torino, the “Comitato Italia 150” and the Piedmont Region have created the "Biennale Democracy", an international cultural event with the first edition held in Torino in April 2009.
The “Biennale Democracy” calendar could not miss an initiative aimed at new generations, in honour of the Torino 2010 European Youth Capital, that's why a new event is held in 2010.

The goal of "Democracy 2.0" is to create an innovative path able to explore some of the issues of major public interest. The project will aim to create a telematic platform, where discussions can be made on related topics, such as Europe and European citizenship, information and mass media, employment, poverty alleviation and sustainability, understood both in a social sense as well as in an economic, political and environmental sense. The "virtual" debate will be divided into several phases and will be formalized with the creation of an International Forum to be held in our City
1- 4 March 2010. The chosen topics will be processed by a specially appointed committee, in agreement with the European Youth Forum, affiliated youth associations and debate forums, both locally and nationally.

The purpose of the meetings is to create a genuine "European White Paper" on the needs of youth in Europe for the first deadline of the Lisbon Treaty. There will be a joyfull atmosphere and this event will act as a hub to bring different cultures and generations together, all accompanied by various shows and events. Thereby the City will become an actual training-ground of participation, with plenary sessions taking place according to the "Town Hall Meeting" method and in which young people will of course play a leading role.
